Mardi Gras: the overhead of health care? Whitmore Mansion ...

Hospitals will also know dozens of drunks that need to be medically certified too.?I think we have increased our capacity by about 30 percent and do not know what the tide will be. The number of people who come to this weekend and it is unknown what will happen in the next five days is unknown,? said Joseph F. Uddo, MD. Too Evening

?Ash Wednesday morning, when everyone says,? My god, I do not know what they were so concerned ?if their comment, it means that we have done well,? he said.

The violence may account for the annual rotation of staff very high 25-150% in nursing homes, is also associated with reduced productivity, absenteeism and consultancy costs, low morale and reduced quality of personal life.

New Orleans, Ray Nagin, the mayor told reporters Friday that a great party give residents the opportunity to take a step back from the daily burden they have endured since Katrina hit nearly six months ago.

?This close to the parade route, I am very afraid that we will be flooded and so we did everything we thought we could do to prepare,? says Ruiz.

John Welsh, MD, Chief of Emergency Hospital in East Jefferson, tells WebMD that it is satisfied with the level of preparedness in the city.

Ambulance expect an increase in injuries from falling revelers on the balcony or be crushed by tanks. Many patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes or often ?went a bit ?too much to the point where the disease is now completely uncontrolled? and end up in urgent need of medical care, Ruiz says, that the hospital is two blocks houses Gras parade Tuesday route on St.

To Your Good Health | www.truequickweightloss.com

I assume that if you are following this page you are interested in either improving your current health & fitness or like to follow a healthy lifestyle & are looking for more information to help you keep on track. Some of you may wonder why it is I choose health & fitness as my passion in life. I get lots of people wondering this so I?m going to tell you a bit about me & what drives my health & fitness choices.

Firstly I want to say that I believe we all deserve to feel well. For some of us good health is a blessing that isn?t always easy to achieve. For many of us, good health is something we take for granted until a health issue arises that makes us stop & re-assess life. For me, good health is something I?ve worked hard to achieve over the last few years.

My story with nutrition began many, many years ago as a teenager wanting to lose weight. I learned about high fiber diets, high carb diets, low fat, high protein, no grains, all grains etc?..the list goes on & on. I loved sport as a kid & as I grew up I followed sport here & there & always kept active. About 3 1/2 years ago I got into weight training & saw the most amazing results in my body. With all that I?d learned about nutrition I was able to train, grow muscle, stay lean & feel awesome. Slowly though underneath all this healthy exercise & nutrition, my body was slowly turning against me. I began developing food intolerances one food after another. I was tired, worn out & eventually had to reduce my training load considerably just to manage. I lost interest in training but lucky for me my knowledge of nutrition kept me lean. I spent a lot of time evaluating the food I was eating, questioning what I?d learned & wondering how someone leading such a healthy life could be so run down.

With all of this happening in my life, I began a serious quest for good health & visited health practitioners of all kinds, studied C.H.E.K holistic Lifestyle Coaching & very successfully followed Metabolic Typing eating as a protein type. I regained a lot of strength eating this way but still felt as if I was lacking the energy I once had. Things came to a head when I started developing inflammation problems. You see I?d had silicone breast implants for 6 years & my body was beginning to seriously reject them. After much research & deliberation I decided it was time they came out. What I?d read on the net from other women experiencing the same thing was my breast implants were very likely causing all the health related issues I?d been experiencing. This was really hard to swallow because in Australia these devices are considered as safe. My surgeon in fact advised me to use silicone over saline implants because they looked better on thin women & were very safe. Hard to believe but it?s true. Anyway, as this article is about the quest for good health & not silicone & saline implants I will move on.

I work for myself & have done for quite a number of years. When you work for yourself, being unwell is just not an option. Taking 6 weeks off work to recover from breast implant removal was not something I planned for 2011. It?s now over & done & I?m on the way to recovery & hopefully fully restoring my health. I?m still not able to exercise & can?t even move the rabbit cage, hang out the washing or clean the shower. This is what got me thinking about how we value good health. Not being able to exercise is such a big thing for me. I began to think about old age, disability & debilitating illnesses. I realised just how fortunate I am that this is just a temporary state & that soon I will be back to being myself. It also made me realise that we just can?t take our health for granted. Good health is a blessing & we need to honour it by looking after ourselves to the best of our ability. Good health is something to pride ourselves on & something that should be prized highly in society.

It?s a shame that it takes diseases? or illness for us to wake-up & look after our health. From now on I am making it my quest to encourage myself & others to follow a healthy lifestyle to avoid future illness. It?s a real shame that we expect to get frail & weak as we age. What we need to focus on is keeping well, searching for good health & working towards a fantastic & able old age. This isn?t about living longer, it?s about living stronger. I know one thing for sure. I want to be fit & active for the rest of my life & I actually expect that I will be.

Do you think about your health & the impact it has on your life. Are you able to make small changes that will make a big difference? If you need help with making changes in your life, give me a call or send me an email I?m more than happy to have a chat with you to see what changes you could make to ensure you experience more vitality in your life :0) Mel

I?m a fitness instructor with a passion for good health and nutrition. I enjoy helping my clients to identify their strengths and weaknesses on their journey towards better health & fitness. I believe self empowerment is the way to achieving your goals and education is the key.

In this Friday, April 6, 2012 photo, Free Syrian Army fighters gather on a corner during fighting with Syrian troops in a suburb of Damascus, Syria. Syrian government shelling and offensives against rebel-held towns killed dozens of people across the country on Saturday, activists said, as the U.S. posted online satellite images of troop deployments that cast further doubt on whether the regime intends to comply with an internationally sponsored peace plan. (AP Photo)

(AP) ? The bloody conflict in Syria spilled across two borders Monday, killing a cameraman in Lebanon and wounding at least five people in a refugee camp in Turkey as gunfire flew across the tense frontiers, authorities said.

The violence came as a U.N.-brokered peace plan all but collapsed and bolstered fears that the uprising could spark a broader conflagration by sucking in neighboring countries.

Ali Shaaban, a cameraman for the Al Jadeed television station, was filming in Lebanon's northern Wadi Khaled area when a bullet pierced his chest, Lebanese security officials said. The gunfire came from the nearby Syrian village of Armouta, the officials said.

Shaaban, who was born in 1980, died on the way to the hospital, the officials said on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

His colleague, reporter Hussein Khreis, said the team heard heavy gunfire around them from all sides, "falling like rain." Shaaban was inside a car when he was struck, Khreis said.

"If you see the car you would think it was in a war zone," Khreis said on Al Jadeed TV. "It is completely destroyed from the bullets."

He said they waited for more than two hours for the army and some residents to come and pull them out to safety.

"I ask forgiveness from Ali's family because I couldn't do anything for him," he said, breaking into tears.

Earlier Monday, Syrian forces fired across the border into a refugee camp in Turkey, wounding at least five people, authorities said.

The Syrian soldiers were believed to be firing at rebels who tried to escape to the refugee camp after ambushing a military checkpoint, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, citing a network of sources on the ground.

Turkey shelters thousands of refugees who have fled Syria as President Bashar Assad tries to crush a revolt against his regime. The U.N. estimates some 9,000 people have been killed in Syria since March 2011, when the uprising began.

The Syrian revolt began with mostly peaceful protests against Assad's regime, a family dynasty that has ruled the country for four decades. But in the face of a relentless military assault on protests, the opposition has become increasingly militarized.

Now, the uprising resembles an armed insurgency, and there are fears the country is spiraling toward civil war. International envoy Kofi Annan brokered a cease-fire that was supposed to begin Tuesday, but the plan is in tatters.

Syrian troops were meant to pull out of population centers by Tuesday morning, but the government on Sunday introduced a new demand ? saying it cannot withdraw without written guarantees from opposition fighters that they will lay down their arms. Syria's main rebel group rejected the government's demands.

The Syrian opposition and Western leaders had been skeptical all along that Assad would live up to his commitment to a truce because he broke similar promises in the past and escalated attacks on opposition strongholds in the days leading up to the cease-fire deadline.

Turkey hosts some 24,000 Syrian refugees, including hundreds of army defectors, and has floated the idea of setting up a buffer zone inside Syria if the flow of displaced people across its border becomes overwhelming.

The two countries share a 911-kilometer (566-mile) border, and parts of southern Turkey near Syria are informal logistics bases for rebels, who collect food and other supplies in Turkey and smuggle them to comrades across the border.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the fighting along the Turkish border began before dawn Monday when rebel fighters attacked Syrian soldiers manning a checkpoint near the Turkish border, killing six soldiers.

Rami Abdul-Rahman, a spokesman for the Observatory, said the troops then kept firing as they pursued eight wounded rebels who escaped to the camp just across the border in Turkey, sending bullets whizzing across the frontier.

According to the Observatory, the shooting wounded five people in the camp, which is next to the Oncupinar border post near the town of Kilis in Gaziantep province.

The Observatory reported that two people later died of their injuries, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

The provincial governor, Yusuf Odabas, said five people were wounded: three Syrians, one Turkish translator and one Turkish policeman. The translator had entered the camp to try to help calm an anti-Assad protest, he said. The governor said Turkish military forces did not return fire.

Ankara, which has been among Assad's harshest critics, summoned the Syrian charge d'affaires in response to the shooting and called for an immediate halt to the gunfire.

Annan is scheduled to visit to one of the refugee camps in Hatay province, bordering Syria, on Tuesday afternoon, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said.

"Annan's one-hour visit to Hatay tomorrow is critical, he will see the situation himself," Naci Koru, Turkey's deputy foreign minister, said, according to state-run TRT television.

Koru also said the deadline for the troop withdrawal has become "void at this stage."

Annan has been on a diplomatic push to rally support for his cease-fire deal. The international community, which so far is unwilling to contemplate military intervention, has had little leverage over Syria.

But Iran, Russia and China have been Assad's strongest supporters. Annan already has traveled to Moscow and Beijing, and he was expected in Tehran on Tuesday.

On Monday, Russia was hosting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem.

It is not clear whether Moscow will try to pressure Syria to comply with the cease-fire plan, though Russia said Monday it may send its observers to Syria as part of a potential U.N. monitoring mission.

Also Monday, Human Rights Watch said it has documented the killings by Syrian forces of 85 civilians, including women and children, and the summary executions of at least 16 wounded or captured opposition fighters.

"In a desperate attempt to crush the uprising, Syrian forces have executed people in cold blood, civilians and opposition fighters alike," said Ole Solvang, a researcher for the group. "They are doing it in broad daylight and in front of witnesses, evidently not concerned about any accountability for their crimes."

The New York-based group said it only included cases corroborated by witnesses, but has received many more reports of similar incidents.

CSN: Cespedes hits 462-foot blast? |? A's lose to M's

? ? ?
The pitch was a cutter that didn?t cut anything but the air on the way back ? a plane taking off, or a car taking air off a San Francisco hill in a cop chase movie.

Yoenis Cespedes? first exposure to the full American audience resulted in 462 feet of legend, an enormous bomb of a home run that leavened Seattle?s 7-3 victory over Oakland Friday and established Cespedes as that most feared of cultural phenomena:

The athlete you postpone a trip to the bathroom to see.

There is no higher form of praise, not written nor spoken, than someone who can make you tell your innards they?ll just have to wait. But when Cespedes took that 1-0 cutter from Jason Vargas and sent it shrieking off the fa?ade above the luxury suites in left-center field, he became an Internet word-of-mouth sensation.

Comrade Gutierrez will cover this in greater detail from Cespedes? view, but the Oakland rookie has produced the one thing the A?s have been starving for since before Jose Canseco snapped off the rails ? a bathroom blocker.

There aren?t many of them in sports, and really, there can?t be. Most other sports possess more continuous action and therefore you can?t really plan when to postpone a W.C. excursion. That right is reserved for baseball and golf, mostly.

But Cespedes, the Cuban expat who is making more money than any other Athletic not directly involved in ownership, is there now, three games into his major league career. He hit a ball 1? football fields long, it went viral in about the time it took to ricochet off the concrete facing, and a Twitter hero is born.

The benefit for the A?s is that it happened before a rare sellout crowd, and Cespedes? homer was by far the highlight of an otherwise turgid game. That means he will become a word-of-mouth phenomenon as well, and word-of-mouth remains the best marketing tool there is because word-of-mouth is controlled not by the marketer but by the market-ee, and even more by the audience.

The fan base talks about what it wants to talk about, and here, Yoenis Cespedes is suddenly the thing in a way he wasn?t before the National Anthem was played.

In that way, the A?s won Friday night, despite the seven Mariner runs, the balls kicked and thrown about, and the four other hits. They found someone worthy of the title, ?I?ll go to the bathroom in a minute.?

Family Tree Maker 2012 running on a Virtual Machine & Win XP ...

Home ? Thoughts ? Tips & Opinions ? Technology & Tools ? Family Tree Maker 2012 running on a Virtual Machine & Win XP

Like many of you, I rely heavily on Ancestry.com to provide me access to genealogical source materials.? The difficulty I have had with these materials over the years is in simultaneously getting source media objects/images onto my desktop and linked to a viable copy of a family tree.? Well, it looks like Family Tree Maker 2012 (FTM 2012) finally has solved that problem for me.

Given that most of the ManyRoads readership are Windows users, the following section may have only limited value to you.? However if you are a Linux or Mac user or if you are contemplating transitioning operating systems environments (or mixing them), I think you might find my journey of value.

I think most of you know, by now, that I am primarily a Linux user.? Currently my business and personal PCs are running Ubuntu variants for our general computing and technical development needs, most generally Xubuntu 12.04. As a rule, I do not buy Windows software.? My typical experience has been that I can easily find Open Source software with the same or better functionality than that available on either Windows or Apple at a much lower cost (read, Free).? However, when I read that FTM 2012 was able to synch with Ancestry.com and synch across my PC and tablet platforms; well, I just had to give FTM a try.

My initial attempt at installation involved using Wine (Windows Emulator Environment).? To quote the folks at Wine:

Wine lets you run Windows software on other operating systems. With Wine, you can install and run these applications just like you would in Windows.

Wine is still under active development. Not every program works yet, however there are already several million people using Wine to run their software.

Sadly, FTM 2012 failed to run for me after installation under Wine. Because I had yet another installation option available to me, I did not bother to figure out why Wine did not work (sorry).

My next attempt involved installing FTM 2012 on my Windows XP Virtual machine running under Xubuntu (My virtual WinXP PC is installed in an environment using Oracle Virtualbox OSE.). For those who are unfamilar with VirtualBox, here?s what they say about themselves:

VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2.

Now back to my tale, this second installation went very well. Although I did decide to make a few modifications to my WinXP Virtual environment for a better operating experience as well as an improved look & feel, specifically:

  • I modified my standard WinXP desktop settings to use Clear Type (prettier fonts)
  • I upped my Virtual PC memory from 256 to 768 MB, to speed things up because FTM seems a tad memory heavy to me (in terms of ?apparent? response time)
  • I added additional disk space to allow for smoother operation (another little improvement to response time was noted)

Because one of the major reasons I spent money on FTM was the synch between my Desktop and Ancestry? I began with a link to my Ancestry account. Here are my basic, ?initial? observations:

  • FTM 2012 synchs quite well with pre-existing Ancestry data.? Not fast but thoroughly!
  • Media does indeed download!? Yay!
  • Finally, to my joy and surprise, I have an easy method to correct errors on my Ancestry Trees.

Other nice features/ options I have noticed thus far include:

  • You can exclude Ancestry family Trees from automatic searches (the little leaf thingees)!? Those error-prone, inaccurate Family Trees can now be easily ignored. As they say in Germany: Gott sei dank! (Praise to God!)
  • FTM allows ?enhance record images? to be downloaded from Ancestry.com; so much better to see them with?
  • It is easy to define a specific location for your FTM files, data, images, etc.; this allows me to place everything in a shared Linux/Windows file area.

In the main, this seems to have been money well spent!? As I learn more about FTM 2012, I will post noteworthy items on ManyRoads.
