McDonald's wants to be everywhere including religious pilgrimage sites in India, where it's opening its first two vegetarian restaurants.

Beef and pork have been off the McDonald's menu in India for some time, but at its first vegie restaurants, the company will serve?McAloo Tikki Burgers, which features?a?mashed-potato patty, and the Pizza McPuff, a vegetable and cheese pastry.

McDonald's has about 270?restaurants in India now - its first?opened?1996.?The vegetarian outlets are in?Amritsar,?a holy site for Sikhs, and in?Katra, an?important pilgrimage site for Hindus.

Competitors?Yum! Brands, which?owns Taco Bell, has?479 outlets across?India,?Bangladesh, Mauritius, Nepal and Sri Lanka, and plans to open 100 more?this year. Domino's Pizza has about 500 stores in India, reports Bloomberg.?

About 60% of McDonald's revenue is outside the US. It's next expansion quest could be Vietnam, which has so far managed to elude its presence.
