Flag Dropping Starts, 8 Second Testing & More at the Southwest ...

Wittmann,Arizona(November 10, 2012) ? Mark Yacavone and Ken (Spike) Ackman are the minds behind the Southwest Nostalgia Drags.? Mark is a founder and promoter for the organization while his business partner Ken is a promoter as well.

Both Mark and Ken have long histories in racing.? Both have been automotive enthusiasts since their early teens.? Since then, they have both developed a passion for drag racing.? Running the East Coast NHRA circuit, Mark still hold drag racing records from his career in Stock and Super Stock Classes.

Saturday, Mark and Ken gathered with others with the same passion for racing during the Southwest Nostalgia Drags.? With test and tune lanes also open for the event, vintage era race cars made passes down Speedworld Dragstrip?s 1/4 mile track throughout the event.?? but the only passes that counted for a trophy Saturday were those running for a trophy from the Southwest Nostalgia Drags.

With a combination of flag dropping starts and a launch off the tree, drivers competing in Saturday?s race drove their cars hard for a chance at a win.

During the event, Mark and Spike presented Lowell Roemer with a Hot Rodding Pioneer award. ?Lowell brought his nitro fueled 6 cylinder dragster to the track for display.

With test ?n tune lanes open during the event, the track drew in some high horsepower cars and drivers looking to tune their rides.? We suspect some will be heading to Vegas next week for the PSCA Street Car Super Nationals VIII.

The first round of flag dropping elimination runs led to a blown motor in the right lane at the top of the track.? A close nit group, the concern for their friend after seeing nothing but smoke at the end of the track was obvious by the look on their faces.? Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but the track required an extensive cleaning.

Here?s your winners from November?s Southwest Nostalgia Drags:

Clayton?s # 888 took home the trophy in Hot Rod 1

Andazola?s # 53 took home the trophy in Hot Rod 2

Phillips? # 7783 took the win in the Stock SS class

The # 809 Buick GS took the win in the Trophy class

In the Custom Flag Drop class, it was the # 269 taking the win.
