At the apex of agriculture: Mountain Feed & Farm Supply votes best ...

BEN LOMOND -- Jorah Roussopoulos, owner of Ben Lomond's Mountain Feed & Farm Supply, sums up the 8-year-old store this way: "It's a one-stop shop for critters and crops."

Roussopoulos owns the store with wife Andi Rubalcaba. The pair, along with a dedicated staff, have created a store whose variety is unparalleled in the San Lorenzo Valley -- in all of Santa Cruz County, really. For the home cook, there's everything from flavored salts to sausage casings. For the farmers, there's feed galore. The store's nursery is like a sanctuary for gardeners, with a variety of ornamental and edible plants. Roussopoulos credits nursery buyer and designer Teresa Aquino with the nursery's popularity and success.

"She's picky," he said. "She won't settle."

For customers, this means quality is almost a certainty at the locally owned store. There's much more to the store than plants, though. Interested in beekeeping? They've got you covered. Want to make your own cheese? Stop on by.

"The nursery is just a little piece of the whole puzzle," he said.

The nursery is a place where people can come to help them bring to life the vision they have for their property.

"Who the heck doesn't like beautiful plants?" he said.

The store is stocked based on popular demand, so customers are encouraged to let the staff know what they'd like to see on the shelves.

"It's not our store, it's yours," he said.
